Lovingly Reborn then Kissed Goodbye - A Photo Gallery of My Work

The Reborn Process:

All babies at Kate-n-Kenna's Kisses are reborned with the  utmost care.  Since I usually use kits created by Bountiful Baby and Simply Reborn Dolls, from special artist such as Denise Farmer, Joanna @ Pitter Patter Nursery, Denise Pratz-Kuntz and many more, much of the prep work has been eliminated, such as removing all factory paint.

I first give each piece of the doll kit its first warm, sudsy bath with Johnson's Baby Wash, then allow to air-dry.  I then go over each piece with alcohol to ensure the vinyl is ready to receive the first layer of paint.

I turn my oven to 265 degrees Farenheight, and the fun begins!  I then lay out my pallette of paints to begin bringing the vinyl to life.  The image I have in mind for the baby determines what color I begin with.  I then begin painting, layer by layer, using Genesis Heatset paints.  Each layer is heatset to insure against fading and chipping.

No roll or wrinkle is overlooked!  When I am 100% satisfied with the coloring and lifelike tones of the baby, I begin rooting the hair.

I use only the best mohair for the creation of your baby.  Each hair is individually rooted 1-2 strands at a time with the finest felting needle.  This is a time-consuming process, but so worth it!  It can take up to 40 hours to root one head, sometimes even longer!  All hand-rooted hair is sealed 2x with waterproof sealant to make sure it's extra secure so the babies' hair can be styled easily.

Each baby is then given a specially-created new doesuede body to make them more soft and cuddly.  The  babies are weighted with the finest glass beads and/or polly pellets and fiberfill. They look and feel so real, you just want to hold them all day!

Babies at Kate-n-Kenna's Kisses Nursery have their noses softly opened so they can breathe, and backed wtih dark-colored felt for a more realistic look.   At the mommy's request, their mouths are backed with with a magnet so they can take their pacifier whe never they get fussy.  You can even feel the baby 'tug' on it when you try to remove the paci, like he or she doesn't want to give it up!

Nails are manicured to look like a baby's first nails and triple-sealed to prevent chipping.

Finally, after many days and hours of detail-oriented work, the finished reborn is no longer a play doll, but a collector's dream to be cherished for many years to come!  Before they are shipped, each baby is lovingly kissed and hugged by my ''helpers''; my beautiful daughters whom I named the business after...Kate and Kenna. That way you can be sure your reborn will be snuggled and loved enough to last on the way to their new home!
